Let’s clarify something crucial: nearly all of our product packaging and delivery materials are recyclable with your household waste, and TEMPLESPA are striving for 100% recyclability!
But can you bear to get rid of it? I struggle with that. Maybe it’s ingrained because my mum was always encouraging us to get involved with crafts or that I hate to waste anything, or perhaps I am simply a natural born hoarder.
I never let my TEMPLESPA delivery boxes go to waste! I repurpose them for sending presents to loved ones, and their durability makes them perfect for organising items on shelves and in cabinets.
Then I use an appropriate sticker on every package I reuse to send in the mail. I bought the ones in the pic’ below from CWPhotoArt who is also one of my UK Gift Hour co-hosts.
Every item arrives wrapped in tissue paper, which is often reused for packing purposes. Sometimes, it even serves as a playful distraction for cats.
Whenever possible, I purchase my personal products without packaging. At the moment, this is only feasible with the ALL BAGGED UP SUPER STARTER and the ALL BAGGED UP ON THE GO COLLECTION. As a TEMPLESPA consultant, most core products arrive unpackaged when I replenish my kit.
These ‘BAGGED UP’ collections come in a reusable mesh pouch instead of boxes. Perfect for travel and festivals, this design makes it simple to show security what’s in your bag.
This item looks fantastic, is incredibly lightweight, and can be cleaned effortlessly. It offers numerous functionalities, even if you’re not planning to take your essentials with you. But honestly, who wouldn’t want to carry their TEMPLESPA must-haves everywhere?
You don’t have to limit its use to toiletries or skincare; one of my clients uses hers for first aid supplies. It’s transparent, so she can easily spot and grab what she needs (hopefully, not often!).
I really wish I could purchase all my products without packaging and hope that someday, TEMPLESPA will make this possible for all their items. So, what do I do with the packaging I already have? I repurpose them for a variety of uses. Here’s just a glimpse of my collection of cartons, and trust me, this is only a fraction of the cardboard treasure in my storage.
I find them perfect for showcasing my goods at workshops and events. They also serve as protective padding for loose items in my TEMPLESPA travel kit. Taller ones can be decorated for makeup brushes or pens, while shorter ones hold everything from Post-Its to string. You can even cut one top or side off any of the cartons and use them as drawer organisers; let’s face it, we all have ‘one of those drawers’ that’ always chaotic.
Recycle it! Any leftover or unneeded cardboard goes straight to the recycling but, that doesn’t happen very often around here.
I always repurpose my product containers once they’re empty. I make sure to give them a good wash with hot, soapy water first. I haven’t tried using a dishwasher yet (RIP dishwasher), but I’ll update when I get a new one. Has anyone cleaned TEMPLESPA jars this way? Let me know in the comments!
I reuse my small, screw-top bottles by refilling them from larger ones for travel, rather than buying mini versions of my favourite items again. A small funnel is your friend if you want to do this yourself!
Many containers transform into delightful night lights, especially the soft, frosty pink tubs of EXALT Neck Firming Cream Gel tubs. Simply place a flameless, battery-powered tea light inside (avoid real candles and never place them in plastic containers for safety reasons).
The GLORIOUS MUD jars, now out of production, are quite large and incredibly handy if you have any! Here’s an example that’s been transformed into a tiny terrarium with pebbles and a faux plant sprig repurposed from an aquarium.
I often leave the TEMPLESPA labels on my upcycled creations because they serve as examples in my classes, allowing customers to see which containers have been repurposed. You can remove most labels with hot, soapy water for paper ones, and nail polish remover for printed ones.
Our glass diffuser containers can be repurposed, but sadly, the reeds can’t be reused. After absorbing the fragrance oil throughout the diffuser’s lifespan, they become blocked. Once the oil is gone and the reeds are dry, it’s time for a refill (hopefully from TEMPLESPA soon) or buy another diffuser.
A tapered bottle light can beautifully complement the neck of our diffuser jars, creating a delightful visual effect. This particular one comes from our KEEP THE PEACE Relaxing Aromatic Diffuser.
Transform glass diffuser jars into unique make-up brush holders! Simply insert brushes (handle first) into the bottle neck. Add pebbles or beads for a pretty touch and to keep them steady, perfect for drying after cleaning.
TEMPLESPA’s glass candle holders are versatile. They make excellent plant pots, small vases, and are perfect for organizing cotton pads and buds.
An empty TEMPLESPA candle jar with some battery-operated fairy lights inside (or just a regular candle) looks very pretty, too. I have more than a few SIESTA FOREVER Relaxing Aromatherapy Candle jars that I reuse all the time – because that’s my favourite TEMPLESPA candle. The ones pictured are limited edition candle jars from previous seasonal campaigns and no longer available but, one and two years in – they’re still going strong (just not as a candles).
Many of our larger cream containers are also perfect for storing cotton pads, making them convenient to toss into your bag. I particularly miss some of our older cream jars, which featured mirrored lids. These were great for quick make-up or hair checks, so if you still have any, well done, as our current packaging isn’t ideal for ensuring your mascara hasn’t smudged or anything.
Similarly, the VELVELUTTO and GORGEOUS GLOW compacts included far superior mirrors, and even after the powder was used up, their stylish, stackable design remained practical for keeping small items like pins or false eyelashes neatly and elegantly stored.
As a customer once noted, the closure on our compacts is magnetic and she now never loses her metal nail file in her bag as her compact always finds it! Another fine way to upcycle a magnet!
So, even though our face base and bronzer are now discontinued, the containers can live on!
Many folks prefer using bar soap, and our KEEP CALM Aromatic Cleansing Soap not only has a delightful fragrance but is also conveniently sized for guests who enjoy using soap bars. Moreover, if you’re not hosting visitors, it serves as an excellent option for adding a pleasant scent to your lingerie drawer.
Some of our packaging features interchangeable parts, allowing me to enjoy creating ‘Frankentainers’ – purely for practical purposes, naturally. There’s absolutely nothing ‘incorrect’ about the presentation of TEMPLESPA containers; I simply have my own personal tastes.
If you’re lucky enough to have a bottle of RESTITUDE Relax & Unwind Shower & Bath Luxe, which is typically only available for a limited time each year, you can repurpose the cap from a bottle of ALL IN HAND Cleansing Aromatherapy Hand Wash or ALL IS WELL Hydrating Aromatherapy Hand Lotion to transform it into a pump dispenser. This makes it more convenient to use in the shower, as it serves as a fantastic shower gel and a delightful bubble bath, too.
This used to apply to IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE Energizing Body Shower Scrub (now no longer available), and many bath and shower product containers have transitioned from bottles to tubes, making this no longer feasible, but the mention remains for historical reference. Personally, I am fond of the bottles and would be delighted to see them make a bold return!
You can replenish empty RESTITUDE, ALL IN HAND, and ALL IS WELL bottles with nearly any non-corrosive liquid you prefer. Just be sure to mark them (I find Sharpies effective) so you can identify the contents later. Due to their small size, these bottles are particularly handy for carrying liquids like dish detergent on camping or caravanning adventures, for example.
I adore our GOOD HAIR DAY Frequent Use Hair Shampoo for regular use, though I’m not a big fan of the squeeze tube. Therefore, I prefer transferring it into an empty RESTITUDE, ALL IN HAND, or ALL IS WELL bottle, as I find the pump mechanism much more convenient to handle.
A quick note: since the initial publication of this blog, TEMPLESPA has launched larger pump-action bottles for certain items. Hooray!
Here is a repurposed, unadorned ALL IN HAND bottle. I eliminated the printed label using some nail polish remover. I used to use an ALL IN HAND bottle for shampoo and an ALL IS WELL bottle for conditioner (which is a different hue, so I can distinguish between them) but of course, there’s no need for this now since the introduction of the aforementioned larger bottles.
Our TONING ESSENCE Essential Mist Toner comes in a spray bottle but our other toners do not – they have a pump action dispenser.
I like to spritz my TONING ESSENCE so the spray is perfect but, if I am using it on make-up pads, I prefer to pump it out – it’s more efficient. I use EASY ON THE EYE Gentle Eye Make Up Remover as an eye tonic as well as a make-up remover (it is designed to do both) and whilst the pump is great for using with make-up pads, if I just want to quickly freshen-up my eyes or only have a few tiny traces of make-up left, I find a quick spray is enough.
It’s simple to have both. Just buy two bottles of each (or reuse empty bottles and decant half from your new bottles) then, to spray your EASY ON THE EYE or GLOWCOLIC, just replace the pump dispenser with the spray nozzle from a used TONING ESSENCE bottle (and vice-versa if you want to pump your TONING ESSENCE instead of misting it). This upcycle does not work so well with the new BE QUIET Soothing Milky Toner.
I utilise both products, so on my bathroom shelf, you’ll find two containers: one with TONING ESSENCE and the other with EASY ON THE EYE, each equipped with a pump and a spray nozzle, allowing me flexibility in how I apply them. Additionally, I have a small, relabeled travel-sized spray bottle filled with EASY ON THE EYE that I keep in my bag.
In a perfect world, we would have the capability to replenish our containers, and numerous customers have inquired about this possibility. However, at present, it’s not a feasible solution despite being a topic that has received considerable attention.
