It all started with a Tweet…
It feels like a lifetime ago, back when my Instagram still existed, that I first unveiled my avocado seedling, Sputnik. Now a social media recluse, here’s to commemorating his brief but bright online career โ a virtual toast to our avocado escapade.
While my own avocado was taking its sweet time, this entire experience blossomed unexpectedly. I was astonished to discover fellow avocado enthusiasts among my Twitter connections, and before I knew it, we were swapping growth updates.
My initial posts had been part of a Twitter reply and so eventually, I moved them to their own thread.
A few months in and feeling confident, I started another avocado and then, there were not two but – three (sort of).
Adding a second avocado to the mix brought an unexpected twist โ Sputnik’s companion harboured a mutation, resulting in two distinct shoots.
It’s a funny little conjoined thing, but super healthy and actually bigger than Sputnik these days. Being outside for most of the summer, I reckon that’s what made it grow so much faster.

Now, a year on from when I started this nonsense with Sputnik, both my avocado plants are growing well, and it’s time to retire them from their social media antics and let them mature in peace, but that’s not where the avocado party stops!
Due to my work, I mention avocados a lot on social media, because of their incredible skincare properties. Avocados contain skin nourishing vitamins A, D and E, and fatty acids including oleic acid which help maintain moisture for long lasting hydration. Avocado oil will help to keep your skin firm, soft, plump and supple by aiding the production of elastin and collagen.
That’s why we use it in so many TEMPLESPA products and of course, avocados are a very healthy snack for your insides, as well!
Therefore, you will see me continue to mention avocados often and, should either of mine ever bear any fruit then I will be sure to update everyone but for now, it’s so long from me and the avocado babies – we’re [avoca]done.
