A-E-I-O-YOU

Lost your mojo? Conjure a little magic with a self-care basket and a few funny faces.

Ah, the age-old refrain: “I simply don’t have the time!” for a proper skincare ritual or a spot of pampering. I absolutely empathise; those evenings when the allure of a good book or the latest, must-see binge watch is simply irresistible. And rightly so! Carving out moments for yourself is a vital form of self-care, a sentiment I wholeheartedly believe in! “Self-care is not selfish,” as I often say.

However, I’ve long advocated for the art of seamlessly blending relaxation with those little well-being and skincare moments. My secret weapon? A small basket nestled in the lounge, a treasure trove containing a miniature hairbrush and compact mirror, a facial massager, gentle cleansing pads, a soft hairband, and a curated selection of skincare essentials: cleanser, toner, moisturiser, a favourite face mask, along with everyday necessities like hand sanitiser and a nourishing hand lotion. This allows me to indulge in a mini at-home spa experience while I’m engrossed in a film, podcast, or my favourite music.

A Relaxing Evening In

This doesn’t need to be a grand undertaking. It could be as simple as a mindful hairbrushing session, invigorating the scalp, or a more comprehensive skincare routine – it truly depends on how I’m feeling and what resonates with me in that particular moment. The beauty lies in its effortless integration. After all, if you’re settling in for a soothing audio story or a captivating film, your face isn’t exactly occupied, making it the perfect opportunity to sneak in a treatment like a hydrating mask. I’m particularly fond of QUENCH for this, as its formulation makes it ideal for an overnight application, working its magic while I sleep.

Similar to a mask, a facial massage is wonderfully non-intrusive to your viewing pleasure. It might pose a slight challenge if you’re immersed in a physical book, but if you’re enjoying an audiobook, why not go the whole hog? Perhaps even add an eye mask and those classic cucumber slices for the ultimate relaxation ritual! I’m currently enjoying our fabulous CBD range, and incorporating a facial oil into my massage routine makes the whole process feel utterly luxurious.

THE SCULPTOR Multi-Purpose Massager, which has become my go-to (though I still use THE ELEVATOR too), is another trusty companion for my downtime. Its quiet yet effective action means it doesn’t distract me in the slightest while I’m watching or listening to something engaging.

The same principle applies to a soothing hand massage. If your hands are at rest, why not treat them to some tender loving care with your preferred hand cream? PALM BALM is always an excellent choice for this.

Furthermore, gentle hand and facial exercises can be effortlessly incorporated into your relaxing moments at home.

For your hands, a simple exercise like rolling your fingers back and forth, as if playing an invisible piano, is a fantastic way to maintain flexibility, and it can be done absolutely anywhere.

When it comes to the face, the A-E-I-O-U vowel exercises have been a personal favourite since my teenage years. They are incredibly straightforward and can be performed silently, although perhaps not in every setting (though you might just get away with it if you’re currently wearing a face covering!).

However, I highly recommend watching this brilliant demonstration by ‘spalebrity’ Trinny Woodall…

…and giving it a go – you can genuinely feel those facial muscles engaging!

So, I’m curious, how do you like to unwind? I would be delighted to hear your own ‘spa at home’ relaxation tips!
