Whether you’re heading out on the town with your friends after three hours of prep and aiming for an underworld look, like a “Thriller” flash mob, or contemplating a deathly-quiet night in at home, wrapped around a large cauldron of candy, then you’re in the right place.

Bury any pangs of guilt you feel as you hide from the trick-or-treaters and combine the spookiest of holidays with some me-time. Staying home on Hallowe’en is a great opportunity to celebrate with your own (not so) scary skincare routine!

Face masks are certainly the order of the day for Spallowe’en. At TEMPLESPA, we have masks for every conceivable skin issue. We also have masks for your body and hair, as well as your face. But that’s another story for another blog post – watch this space.

All of our masks work differently; for example, some are deeply hydrating whilst others are refreshing and exfoliating. They are all incredibly effective, providing just what your skin needs for a renewing boost. This is especially true if you have been wearing extra Hallowe’en costume make-up!

Finally, a little damage control

They say that staying in is the new going out. That’s music to my ears because I’m a self-confessed, duvet day kind of a gal. However, if you have been out to a fancy-dress party this All Hallows’ Eve, and you have piled on the palest of all panstick, remember to cleanse thoroughly before bedtime. Your skin will thank you.

I find double-cleansing helpful in these situations. My ultimate go-to product to start any double-cleanse is BE GONE Kind-hearted Cleansing Crème.

You can use this gentle cleanser like an old-fashioned cold cream. I regularly do this, particularly if I have been out all night. Personally, I like to be very generous with this product. It comes in a huge 150 ml tub. I massage a good amount into my skin and leave it for a couple of minutes. Then, I take it off with a clean, warm, damp TAKE IT OFF Soft Muslin Cleansing Cloth or flannel.

Just for the record, the Princess of Wales and Nigella Lawson are both advocates of the humble face cloth. Imagine the toll their schedules take. Yet, you just have to look at either of them to know that their skin is no horror story.

Nigella is also a huge fan of my absolute, all-time favourite cleanser, IN THE BEGINNING Deep Cleansing Melt, which can also double-up as a hydrating mask.

Did you overdo it on the mascara and thick, black eyeliner this Hallowe’en? Or do you suspect that you are going to? Don’t panic. I am sure that you look amazing (so it was worth it). As I mentioned previously, I also use IN THE BEGINNING routinely as a mask, as well as a cleanser. It smells absolutely divine and whilst there’s nothing spooky about IN THE BEGINNING per se, I must mention that I do have a particular fondness for sugar skulls (stay with me – there is a connection).

Marigolds are among the flowers traditionally linked to sugar skulls and Día de Muertos. They are also one of IN THE BEGINNING’s ingredients. This suits me just fine, as does the product. It’s especially great for dull, dry skin. I use it whenever my face needs a resurrection!

Face masks cannot be featured without mentioning multi-masking (where you apply different types of masks to various sections of your face depending on specific skin issues) and double-masking (where you mix masks in tandem).

My preferred double-masking duo are PURIFICATION and IN THE BEGINNING.

• I massage IN THE BEGINNING into my face, missing any blemishes, and then to those I apply PURIFICATION.
• After twenty minutes, I place a warm flannel over my face for another couple of minutes.
• Then, I use that flannel to remove the masks. By that time, they have done their work.
